Everyday plant health heroes
Director of Templeton Farming Enterprises
There is nothing better than looking at green vibrant crops. Obviously, plant health can’t come without good soil health…
How did you choose your job? Or did it choose you?
I’m a third-generation farmer, part my choice and part being born into it.
How long have you worked in this industry?
What does plant health mean to you?
There is nothing better than looking at green vibrant crops. Obviously, plant health can’t come without good soil health, so our whole farming system is looked at to produce good quality crops.
What are your three greatest achievements in this role?
Winning the Australian Biosecurity Award.
Overcoming Pythium issues.
Watching family and employees adopt the passion I have for farming.
What does a typical day look like for you?
Talking to all leading people to see if any assistance is needed. Get out to the farms and work amongst the workers and crops. Plan for tomorrow and the future.
What advice would you give anybody wanting to get into the industry?
Move into the industry in a steady way. There is a lot to learn and plenty that can go wrong. The industry is very supply-driven. It’s not hard to get an oversupply in a small industry.
